Elizabeth and Leicester is a history and analysis of the thirty-year relationship between Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, and Elizabeth, Queen of England. Dudley (1532 – 1588) had known Elizabeth (1533 – 1603) since childhood, and was her ‘favourite’ at court for many years. It was commonly believed that Elizabeth wished to marry Robert. However the death of Dudley’s wife in mysterious circumstances in 1560, while opening the door for marriage to the Queen, also threw suspicion Robert and made him very unpopular. Historian Milton Waldman (1895-1976) was born in Cleveland but lived in England. He wrote several books about Queen Elizabeth and her court.   Published by The Reprint Society in 1946.
