€30.00

Quay Books
A Box for the Season is a collection of short, amusing tales, many with a sporting theme, where ‘sporting’ means fox-hunting, horse-racing and shooting. The style is one of gentle, nostalgic humour, reminiscent of Charles Dickens’s lighter work, such a The Pickwick Papers.
The jovial Tom Crackenthorpe is the hero of the book, and the titles of the stories include the likes of: A Little Tea-Party at the Vicarage, The Bachelors Ball, A Few New Acquaintances and A Chapter of Accidents.
Charles Clarke (1815–1870) was a Church of England clergyman; he wrote several novels and collections of stories in the 1860’s.
Published by Chapman and Hall in 1873.
Generally in good condition with binding intact.
Slight fraying to the top of the spine.
No dust jacket.
