Quay Books
This is a dual biography of childhood, telling the story of Eleanor Ecland and her daughter, Ellen.
Eleanor Margaret Acland, née Cropper was a suffragist, a Liberal Party politician and a novelist. She was born in 1878 and grew up in Westmorland. Her only daughter, Eleanor Edith Dyke Acland, was born in 1913. Tragically, Ellen died at the age of 10 in an accident with her bicycle at the gate of the family estate.
Eleanor’s book is a memoir of her own childhood and a celebration of her daughter’s short life. It was published posthumously in 1935, two years after her death.
The book is in good condition. No dustjacket,
Published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1935.
