John Brown found Britain in peace-time mightily depressing. So in 1950 he and his friend Sebastian Snow set out with a devil-may-care attitude to challenge the largest river in the world. They travelled across South America to find the source of the Amazon and to prove, using the latest aerial and hydrological methods, that the Ninococha glacier lake flowed into the Maranon, the Amazon's most voluminous tributary.
This is a light-hearted travel memoir in which the pair of unqualified Englishmen face trials and adversity with irrepressible wit and unfailing good humour.
Published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1952.
