Honour a Physician, by Philip Auld
€5.00

Quay Books
Honour a Physician is a fictional autobiography of a doctor’s experiences following the introduction of the National Health Service in Britain in 1948. It is a ‘devastatingly caustic’ caricature of a medical practice in an industrial town and charts the difficulties faced by an ordinary doctor in adjusting to the new system.
Philip Auld’s book can be read simply as a witty comedy, with well-drawn characters, or as a fascinating study in cultural history and attitudes to the NHS in Post-War Britain.
Published by Hollis and Carter in1959
In reasonable condition with intact binding. Tears to the top end of the dust jacket.
