A mysterious bundle of manuscripts and letters, passed from hand to hand by Indian merchants on the Chinese trade route, reveals a strange tale. It is the story of three Englishmen who stumble upon a lost civilization and who find themselves in an isolated country where the people still live as they did in the days of the Pharaohs… Martin Louis Alan Gompertz (1886 – 1951) was an Anglo-Indian soldier and writer who wrote adventure stories, mostly set in the Himalayas, in the style of H. Rider Haggard. He adopted the pseudonym of 'Ganpat', because it was the nearest his Indian troops could get to pronouncing 'Gompertz'. Published by William Blackwood, 1924. Hardback. Good condition. Good binding.
