“Of all the things in the world, Archibald Wilverly desired to be a hero.”
Sunday Echoes in Weekday hours follows Archibald and his sister Maggie as they discuss with their mother the moral lessons to be learnt from the lives of men and women in the Old Testament. In this way Mrs Brock hopes to teach “the principles of true heroism”, and to engage her young readers by relating the Bible stories to the lives of Archibald, Maggie and their friends.
Frances Carey Brock (1827 – 1905) was the wife of the Dean of Guernsey in the Channel Islands. She wrote of a number of religious books, some for children, including “Almost Persuaded’: a Tale of Village Life, by a Clergyman’s Wife” and “Home Memories, or Echoes of a Mother’s Voice.”
Published by Seeley, Jackson and Halliday, 1875.
