National Treasures is a social history project authored by members of the public across the island of Ireland.
The goal was to create an inclusive history campaign that would be accessible to all.
It began with asking members of the public to submit their own national treasures to be photographed, recorded and archived, in advance of an exhibition in the National Museum of Ireland.
The campaign was launched with a website, followed by roadshows, a TV series and ultimately this book, which showcases almost 200 of the objects received.
This selection emphasises the diversity and thematic variety of the objects submitted during the course of this project.
