Hugh Kingsmill Lunn (1889 – 1949) was a British novelist and biographer known for his sardonic wit. His large output included criticism, essays, parodies and humour; he also edited a number of anthologies. In conversation he was noted for his outstanding verve and brilliance, but he has fallen out of favour and is mostly forgotten today. All most people know of him is the quote: “Friends are God's apology for relations.” This life of Kingsmill was written by his close friend, the actor, theatre director and writer Hesketh Pearson.   Published by Methuen & Co Ltd, 1951. First edition. Hardback in good condition. With dustjacket. 5 illustrations.
