Japanese Cedar Elegans Cryptomeria japonica Elegans is a beautiful form of this evergreen conifer and aptly named. Japanese cedars produce juvenile and mature foliage depending on their age. This variety, Elegans, carries soft feathery foliage throughout its life, which in Autumn/Winter turns an attractive red-bronze colour. It is a slow growing tree and works well in any garden. Introduced in he 1860's grows at most 5m before bending over and rerooting in the ground. Though this can be prevented if preferred by pruning.
