Malus Prairie Fire
An outstanding American-bred crab apple, Malus Prairifire is a small, spreading deciduous tree, good as a specimen in a small garden. It is grown mainly for its large, very deep pink, single flowers, which appear prolifically in April; they are lightly scented and are very good for pollinators. These are followed by red fruit, large for a crab apple, and attractive to birds; the fruit ripens over a period, giving a long display. The leaves emerge purplish, turning green, but not showing much autumn colour. Only light pruning required. Flowering Group 5 – will pollinate apples in Flowering Groups 4, 5 and 6.
