Monterey Cypress Cupressus macrocarpa is a medium to large sized evergreen conifer, It has become a very common hedging plant and also planted as a specimen tree that can resemble the Lebanese Cedar. When young, It holds a broadly columnar to conical shape, however a mature tree carries a wider spreading crown. The foliage is made up of bright green scale-like leaves held in densely packed sprays. Monterey Cypress bears 20-30cm rounded, brown cones which are held along the branches adding further interest. Sadly this tree is threatened in its own native regions of California. Particularly good for coastal exposed sites.
