Tree Mallow Barnsley
A particularly good cultivar of this hybrid tree mallow, Lavatera x clementii Barnsley is a vigorous, if rather short-lived, small to medium-sized, semi-evergreen shrub with a bushy habit. The tripartite leaves are grey-green, an excellent foil to the pink, mallow-like flowers, which are borne for months in summer. These are 3”/7cm wide, opening white and maturing to pale pink, with a crimson eye and prominent gold stigmas; dead-head to prolong flowering. Attractive to bees and butterflies. Tree mallow Barnsley prefers lighter soils but repays annual mulching with compost. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
