Magnolia stellata Royal Star
A double-flowered cultivar of the species, Magnolia stellata Royal Star is a medium-sized, slow-growing, deciduous shrub or small tree with a broad, rounded shape, ideal specimen for smaller gardens. In early spring, pale pink buds open on the bare branches to lightly scented, white flowers 4 ½ ”/12cm across, with up to 30 narrow tepals. Narrow, lance-shaped green leaves appear later. Beautiful planted against a dark green background, to be viewed from the house in early spring. Minimal pruning required; prune in late summer to prevent ‘bleeding’. Magnolia Royal Star holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
