Japanese Wisteria Domino
A fast-growing, deciduous, clockwise-twining climber, Wisteria floribunda Domino is, though still large, a more compact form of the Japanese Wisteria, suitable for smaller gardens. The mid-green leaves are elegant and deeply divided, turning golden-yellow in autumn. 8” (20cm) trusses of scented, pea-like flowers in shades of lilac and violet with a yellow spot in the throat are borne in late May and early June. These are followed by bean-like pods which sometimes persist into winter. Japanese Wisteria Domino needs sturdy support; the flowers look particularly beautiful hanging down from the roof of a pergola, but it can also be grown as a standard. Needs pruning twice a year. For best flowering, plant in full sun. It holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
