Honey Spurge A large, handsome, evergreen shrub, Euphorbia mellifera has a domed shape and an architectural quality. It is grown as a foliage plant; the long, acid-green leaves have a delicate white stripe along the centre and are produced in whorls round the sturdy stems. Small, brownish flowers, heavily scented of honey, are borne in March and April. Prune back flowered shoots after flowering to allow space for new growth; wear gloves when pruning and avoid splashes from the milky sap, which is a skin irritant. All parts of the plant are toxic. Needs winter protection in cold areas. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
