Purple Loosestrife Beaujolais
A very fashionable flower since appearing at Chelsea Flower Show in 2014, Lysimachia atropurpurea Beaujolais is a short-lived, deciduous, herbaceous perennial with a clump-forming, mildly spreading habit. The narrow, wavy-edged leaves, to 4”/10cm long, are a delicate silvery-green, making a lovely foil for the flowers. The flowers are borne in upright, burgundy spikes in midsummer, are good as cut flowers, and are very attractive to butterflies. Purple loosestrife Beaujolais is lovely planted with maroon lupins, the silvery foliage of artemisias, low, airy grasses, or plants with lime-green foliage.
