Rich Gilligan
Irish photographer Richard Gilligan's work exists somewhere between classic reportage and fine art documentary photography. This approach enables him to create personal, commissioned and editorial bodies of work that focus on the real and intimate nature of people and their relationship to the environments they inhabit. Projects have included his award winning book DIY, a collection of landscapes and portraits of life in homemade skateparks worldwide. He holds an
MFA in Photography from University of Ulster, Belfast and a BA honours degree in Documentary Photography from the University of Wales, Newport. His photographs have been widely exhibited with recent shows in Dublin,
London, Munich, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Sydney and Copenhagen. He was awarded the 2013 SHOWCASE Photography Award from Gallery of Photography, Ireland for emerging talent in Europe and was recently selected by
Time Magazine as one of the top 9 Photographers to watch from Ireland. Richard is currently based in Brooklyn, NY working on new personal and commissioned work.
