Gage Early Transparent Gage
Bred by the Rivers Nursery in Hertfordshire in the mid-19th century, dessert Gage Early Transparent Gage is easier to grow than some gages, and will succeed in colder areas if given a south-facing position. Small to medium-sized, oval, free-stone fruit, palest yellow transparent skin speckled with crimson; golden flesh, sweet, juicy and succulent, with superb, rich, greengage flavour. Moderately vigorous, tidy, upright tree; crops are regular, and good for a gage. Self-fertile, but may crop even better if cross-pollinated. Heavy crops should be thinned for best fruit size and flavour.
