Apple Irish Peach
Also known as Early Crofton, as it’s believed to have come from the orchards of the Croftons of Sligo, this Irish heritage variety is a very early, high quality dessert apple, once widely grown in Ireland and Britain. The apples are small to medium-sized, flat and irregularly shaped, pale greenish-yellow blushed orange-red with crimson streaking. The flesh is cream-coloured, crisp and juicy, with a good balance of sweetness and acidity. The flavour is outstanding for an early apple, aromatic with a hint of peach, and best eaten straight from the tree, as it does not keep. Apple Irish Peach is a fairly vigorous tree with a slightly weeping habit, very attractive in flower and when the fruit is ripe. Good, reliable cropper, with good disease resistance, but comes late into bearing. A tip-bearer, so not suitable for trained forms.
