Country: Italy  Region: Tuscany  Varietal: Sangiovese and blend Vintage: 2010  Category: Red Wine  Colour: Red Producer: Tenuta Valdipiatta "Tenuta Valdipiatta was recommended to us in 2010 by Federico Giuntini of Selvapiana. Located at the heart of the Vino Nobile zone, Tenuta Valdipiatta is run by Miriam Caporali, who brought in top Bordeaux oenologist Eric Boissenot in 2010. He also consults for Lafite, Latour, Margaux and Palmer. Giulio Caporali bought Valdipiatta, founded in 1973, at the end of the 1980s and handed the running of it over to his daughter Miriam in 2002. The property comprises 40 hectares, of which 25 hectares are under vine and planted primarily with Sangiovese (called Prugnolo Gentile in Montepulciano). The 2012 is elegant and supple with good acidity and structure." Product Features: Sustainable;VegetarianWinemaker: Giulio and Miriam Caporali, Mauro Monicchi Vineyards: The vineyards are located in the eastern area of Montepulciano situated between 300-350 metres above sea level with varying exposure as they stretch across the hillside. The soil is primarily clay with some volcanic deposits. The vines are 47 years old and planted at a density of 2,200 vines per hectare and are spur pruned and cordon trained. Yields are low at around 5,000 kilos per hectare (the legal maximum is 8,000 kilos per hectare). Vinification: Cold pre-fermentation maceration took place on the skins. Fermentation occurred with natural yeasts at a maximum of 28°C for three weeks, with daily pumping over and weekly déléstages. Malolactic fermentation took place in 225 litre Allier oak barrels. The wine was then racked into small French oak barriques, 10% of which were new, where it was allowed to age for 18 months. Tasting Notes: An intense and traditional 100% Sangiovese wine. With a dark ruby-red colour, it shows strong structure and complexity, combined with soft and balanced tannins. The nose is characterised by ripe black berry fruit aromas with elegant notes of spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with good acidity and a long finish. Food Suggestion: Enjoy with dark game birds, sautéed leafy greens and polenta or roast root vegetables. Closure:Natural Cork  ABV: 14.5%  Acidity [g/l]: 4.8 Classification: DOCG
