Country: Italy  Region: Tuscany  Vintage: 2017 Category: Red Wine  Color:  Red Producer: Poggiotondo "The Poggiontondo estate is situated in the hills to the north-west of Empoli in western Tuscany. These hills are south and southwest facing, and are planted primarily with Sangiovese. Alberto Antonini's estate has been certified organic since the 2014 vintage. As a result, he has released an organic Chianti as his entry level wine. It is vibrant and delicious, a classic Chianti. His white wine has been given added interest by the addition of Ansonica to the Vermentino. Dry and unoaked, it comes from vineyards on the Tuscan coast that Alberto manages. All the rest of the fruit comes from his estate, and is used to produce an increasingly impressive array of wines. His Chianti Superiore is a step up, showing deep, dark fruit and earthiness. His flagship wine is his 'Vigna delle Conchiglie', made solely from Sangiovese grown in the eponymous vineyard. It is silky and minerally with lovely length, depth and definition." Product Features: Certified Organic;Vegan;Vegetarian Winemaker: Alberto Antonini Vineyards: The wine is made from a selection of fruit from the low yielding Poggiotondo estate vineyards. Soils are limestone and the vines are Guyot pruned and trained using vertical shoot positioning. The estate has recently converted to organic viticulture and is certified organic from vintage 2014. Vinification: The fruit was destemmed and gently crushed before fermentation in concrete tanks for 15 days at approximately 28°C. The wine was then pressed into large untoasted oak casks, where it went through malolactic fermentation before ageing for 12 months. This was followed by six months of ageing in bottle before release. Tasting Notes: Deep, dark fruits and a slight earthiness come through on the complex nose. The palate has soft, velvety tannins and great breadth. The finish is long and complex. Food Suggestion: Classic Chianti food pairings would be local Tuscan stews or your favourite pizza or pasta dish. Closure: DIAM Cork  ABV: 13.5%  Acidity[g/l]:5.5
