Country: Australia Region: Margaret River (WA) Varietal: Chardonnay Vintage: 2017 Colour: White Style: Dry Producer: Cullen Description:This wine was named after Kevin John Cullen, a pioneer of the Margaret River wine region. Together with his wife Diana, they planted the first Cabernet Sauvignon in Wilyabrup, establishing Cullen Wines in 1971. All the Chardonnay grapes were grown on the Cullen‘s own vineyards where some of the vines are more than 30 years old. Winemaker Vanya feels that her conversion to biodynamic viticulture has given better fruit, the character of which she has preserved during the winemaking process. To retain these characters in the bottle, Vanya uses a Stelvin closure. This wine is made on a certified Biodynamic, Carbon Neutral and naturally powered estate. The Chardonnay grapes were hand harvested on fruit and flower days from 36 year old vines. They were then whole bunch pressed and fermented with wild yeast in French barriques. The wine underwent natural malolactic fermentation prior to receiving eleven months of oak maturation. 33 per cent of the barrels were new and the remainder were one year old. Ageing Potential: 3-5 Years Tasting Note:Brilliant light gold. Intense elderflower, lime, citrus and apricot kernel aromas are complemented by the perfect oak treatment. Powerful and complex, the palate combines fresh rich pear, grapefruit, lime, pineapple and saffron flavours. The Kevin John 2012 leaves a wonderful lingering taste. Food Matches: Turkey / Foie Gras / Fish
