Traditional Indian Ceramic Coasters. Exquisitally Handpainted Ceramic Coasters in a range of fun colours & designs. Diameter 11cm. Great for protecting surfaces particualry Coffee & Dining Tables. Coasters were originally designed for wine carafe's to be slid or 'coasted' around banquet tables after servants had retired, when the party would continue late into the night ! Became quite common in use from late 17th Century.  Would have been introduced to India in the early 18th Century by colonial English.
