The Twelve Bens is a mountain range of mostly sharp-peaked quartzite summits and ridges located in the Connemara National Park in County Galway, Connacht, in the west of Ireland. The Irish name for the Twelve Bens is ‘Na Beanna Beola’ or ‘the peaks of Beola’, Beola was a giant and chieftain of the Fir Bolg. In medieval Irish myth, the Fir Bolg were the fourth group of people to settle in Ireland, they were defeated by the pagan Gods, the Tuatha Dé Danann. Some texts suggest that they were offered one quarter of Ireland as their own and they chose Connacht. This artwork is inspired by the giant Beola and the names of each of the peaks are written in her hair. This artwork was created by hand using a fine liner and ink on paper.
It was professionally scanned and printed in Galway on high quality 270 gram, FSC certified, acid free paper. This print is A3 (297x420mm) and will fit in an off the shelf frame. It is signed by the artist.
