Clickety - clack. The train was speeding through the countryside. Sean Murphy, aged 6, of Nenagh, listened to the sound of the train tracks below him. Sean was excited because he had been invited to spend the day on a farm. It was going  to be a wonderful adventure! “ I just wish Jack and Oran could be here too, “ thought Sean Pg. 3 The first stop Sean made was a field where goats and sheep were munching on the grass. “H-e-e-llo,” bleated the goat. “You can talk!” shouted Sean. “Ye-e-e-es,” answered the goat. “And we eat just about anything, including rubbish.” “Yuch, that sounds terrible,” said Sean. A sheep came up to Sean and said, “Soon we’re going to get our wool shaved off so people can make clothes out of it. But it won’t hurt. It feels just like when you get a haircut.” Pg. 4 Just then the sound of squeals filled the air. Sean ran over to a mother pig and her babies. “Wow,” said Sean. “Nine baby pigs! That’s a lot!” “It certainly is,”agreed Mrs. Pig. “And they’re all hungry! Stop pushing, children. There’s plenty for everyone.`` Mrs. Pig smiled and said, “Did you know that pigs are often the cleverest animals on a farm?”. “No, Mrs. Pig, I didn’t,” said Sean. “But thank you for telling me.” Pg. 5 Sean heard the sound of someone fighting nearby. He ran over to investigate. “Quack, quack,” said a duck. “That seed belongs to me!” “Cheep, cheep,” said a chicken. “The farmer left it here for me!” “Don’t fight,” said Sean with a laugh. “There’s plenty for everyone!” So he reached into the seed bag and tosse lots more seed to the hungry chickens and ducks Pg. 6 Sean decided to take a fishing break, but the sky was getting a little dark. He put down his fishing rod and said to a friendly dog, “There’s a storm coming. I must warn all the animals and take them back to the barn.” Pg. 7 Soon all the animals were happy and dry in the barn. Sean held a kitten in his lap and it was purring as it licked his hand. Before too long, the storm ended and the sky became a beautiful blue colour again. “Thanks to you , Sean, all our animals are safe and sound,” said the farmer. “That was quick thinking to bring the animals back to the barn.” Pg. 8 The sun was shining. Sean was feeling very warm and happy as he went skipping through the field. He saw a farmer on a tractor pulling a baler. “At school we learned that this is how a farmer makes bales of hay so the cows and horses will have food during the winter,” said Sean.  Pg. 9 Suddenly, a herd of horses galloped past. Sean quickly jumped out of their way. One horse stopped right next to him. “Neigh, neigh. Thank you for helping all the farm animals during the storm,” said the horse. “Jump up and let me take you for a ride!” Sean hopped onto the horse’s back, and away they rode over the hill. I wish Jack and Oran could see me right now,” said Sean.  Pg. 10 Towards the end of the day, there was just one more job left. Sean ran to watch the final roundup of the cows. He even held the gate open for the farmer and his workers. “Sean, you were such a big help today that we’d like you to spend the night camping with us,” said the farmer. “That sounds great,” said Sean. The farmer made a call to Nenagh and got permission for Sean to stay. Pg. 11 Whilst all the animals of the woods looked on, Sean and the farmer roasted marshmallows and told ghost stories. Before too long, it was already morning and time to go home to see Jack and Oran. “I wish you could stay here forever and help us,” said the farmer. “Thanks,”said Sean. “But I’ve got to go back to Nenagh. I promise I’ll come back again and visit soon.
