The matchboxes were originally created as a collector’s item, which were available to buy in Dutch supermarkets. They depict graphic identities of over 40 different airlines in a time where air travel was a relatively new and exclusive way of travelling. By re-appropriating this imagery Marie aims to celebrate the once romantic idea of air travel. Each screenprint reflects on the connection between design and the collective awareness of a national symbol of identity.MARIE VARLEYMarie is an artist and printmaker based in Dublin City. She graduated from Limerick School of Art & Design in 2011, where she specialised in Fine ArtPainting.
