About the ExhibitionInspired by organic shapes and natural forms alongside the geometric structures she comes across in daily city life, this latest collection at Damn Fine Print was driven by two self-imposed rules. One colour only, and all elements must be touching another – creating dramatic mono-colour prints that use scale and closeness to replace the order of space in an elegant, playful and direct way. Using a completely analogue process she makes paper cut collages that are then transferred to silkscreens for screenprinting in the studio. Speaking about her work, Fitzgerald says: “I’ve taken on Alex White’s belief that, in graphic design, ‘no individual part is viewed as more important than the whole design. A good balance between unity and variety must be established to avoid a chaotic or a lifeless design.’ “Through these idiosyncratic, elemental forms, I’m looking to strike a certain kind of balance between order and chaos, with every element part of the whole.  “For this series, I gave myself two rules: one colour only, and all elements must be touching another, the order of scale and closeness have replaced the order of space in my earlier work.” About the ArtistFitzgerald is an accomplished visual designer with her own branding and design consultancy.
