This print was made as part of our 2020 show by Karen Browett: Fragments Single colour hand-pulled screenprint 100cm x 141cm / on Munken Krystal 300gsm Edition of 8 About the print “I watched the trees above for hours. I don’t remember now what type just that they were leafless and that the sky became like a fresh white sheet. ” Memories flicker like dreams. Cut scene and cello taped together at 6 frames per second. The past redacts to a single broken landscape. Whether an unarticulated trauma or a beloved memory our remembrances when retold are non temporal. Forced into linear narratives forms rupture. Grasped like a favourite tea cup, smashed and glued crudely back together we hold a jigsaw that will never be reconciled. Maybe it was never as whole as we think it must have once been anyway. Through a cut and paste of my own photographs that decay constantly with each repeated zeroxed utterance, the past present and future become a jerking interrupted rhythm. In this the interludes are as significant as the activity. These screen prints are fractured after images that find a space that can exist without possibility of totality.
