This, the latest in a series of exceptional Guji coffee we have been lucky enough to roast, is a tribute to the hard work of Mekuria Mergia, the owner of the washing station in Hambela Wamena which serves the local smallholders. Mekuria has recently decided to focus exclusively on Grade 1 high quality coffees in reaction to the higher prices and lower yields. In 2018, Mekuria set up an export company called Wete Ambela. This enables him to get coffee from his washing stations more directly to worldwide exporters. Since setting up the company, Mekuria has now been able to provide more direct support for his farmers with social programmes including a programme to buy school materials for his farmers' children. The connection with the community is key to Mekuria's success and we can only hope that both the quality of the coffee and of the farmers' lives continues to improve year on year. Enjoy!
