Granuaile: The Pirate Queen is a children's book about the fierce and fascinating Irish woman Grainne O'Malley. Almost 500 years ago, Grainne O'Malley was born in Clew Bay, Co. Mayo. She was the son of a great trader and sea captain, Eoghan O'Malley, and so she spent her childhood sailing and at sea. When her parents wouldn't allow her go on a sailing trip to Spain for fear of her hair getting caught in the ropes, the bauld Grainne cut off her hair and went anyway. And so she became known as Granuaile, or Bald Grainne. With brilliant illustrations by Fatti Burke and written by her dad John, Granuaile is an exciting story about Ireland's most famous pirate that will inspire kids to become whatever they dream of.
The Little Library series also includes Brian Boru: The Warrior King, Tom Crean: The Brave Explorer, Mary Robinson: A Voice of Fairness and Constance Markievicz: The Rebel Countess. For more kids books, check the rest of the collection.
