Biography From historic Lough Gur, Co.Limerick, Robert Ryan graduated from Limerick College of Art and Design in 1987. He has exhibited nationally and internationally since and his work is in a large number of prestigious public and private collections in Ireland and abroad. At the very genesis of Ryan's work is a respect for a "universal creature". A lifelong passion for the natural world and travel has greatly informed his evocative images. Ryan borrows qualities from the European old masters but uses traditional painting characteristics in a post-modern context. Allegorical concepts such as solitude, the infinity of space and time, vulnerability and the fragility of life are explored in his work.
