Oleaster Quicksilver Silvery, scented Elaeagnus Quicksilver is a large, fast-growing, deciduous shrub with a pyramidal, suckering habit. The long, willow-like leaves are silvery blue-green on silver shoots. In May and June, silver buds in the leaf axils open to small, creamy-yellow flowers with a wonderful fragrance that carries on the air. Oleaster Quicksilver is ideal for a coastal garden, as it tolerates dry, sandy soils and coastal exposure, but it dislikes thin chalky soils. Give it plenty of room, and cut back after flowering.
