Serrate-leaved Hydrangea
This slightly tender, self-clinging, climbing hydrangea is suitable for the larger garden, and is a useful shade-loving plant. Hydrangea serratifolia is a big, slow-growing, evergreen climber. The ovate, pointed, leathery leaves are deep green and heavily veined. Crowded panicles of small, creamy-white flowers, up to 6”/15cm long and 4”/9cm wide, are borne in late summer. This climber is good in an architectural, city or courtyard garden, but you do need a building big enough to contain the plant, or it will get under your slates. Prune after flowering. Propagate by layering, or by softwood cuttings.
