Allium Ping Pong A, pretty, white-flowered hybrid plant, Allium jallium Ping Pong is a tall, bulbous, deciduous perennial that comes up year after year. The leaves are strap-shaped and mid-green. Tight heads of spherical, white, star-shaped flowers are borne on straight stems are borne in July and August; bees and other pollinators love the flowers, making this a great addition to a wildlife garden. Plant 10-15cm deep and apart.  If you have heavy clay, it’s best to grow the plant in containers taken in for the winter, as the plant dislikes winter wet. Good in urban gardens, cottage gardens and wildflower meadows. Easy to grow, and no pruning needed, other than to remove spent flowers and foliage. Congested clumps may be divided, or offsets taken – the plant won’t come true from seed. Ornamental onions should NOT be eaten.
