No one is quiet sure how this book got it's "secret" in the name but we do know that was invented in the 1980's by a Belgian bookbinder by the name of Anne Goy. She developed this semi exposed stitching on the spine. A unique feature of the Secret Belgian Binding is that the spinal board (or spine piece) is only held together in tension by the cord that is sewn above and below it. The book opens flat to allow for illustrations across two pages. The price for the workshop includes all materials and you will walk away with your book at the end of the class. The workshop takes place in Terenure in the studio over our shop. Why not spend the day with Gretchen and do the Nag Hammadi class in the afternoon. Gretchen Allen is a book and paper conservator and illustrator. She is originally from Seattle, USA, and now lives and works in Dublin. In addition to her conservation work, Gretchen teaches classes, illustrates for conservation publications, and creates graphic novels and webcomics.  Class price €55 Cancellation Policy
