Agapanthus Charlotte A beautiful African Lily, Agapanthus Charlotte PBR is a tall, evergreen perennial, with an upright, clump-forming habit. The strap-shaped leaves are mid-green and form a low clump, above which the flower stems rise. Umbels of small, trumpet-shaped, pale to mid-blue flowers with a deeper blue-purple midrib are borne on tall stems in July and August. African lily Charlotte is not for areas subject to really savage frosts, or the evergreen leaves will turn to mush in late winter, although they may come up again from the roots. In colder areas, give a deep, dry mulch in winter, or grow in soil-based compost in a pot – it looks lovely in a row of pots in front of a house or in a courtyard garden – and bring under cover in the winter.
