The wines that we present here are wines from Classic areas in France, Any wine drinker will know the areas of Bordeaux, and saint Emilion specifically, and of course Fleurie. Furthermore the examples we have chosen are wines that most Irish wine drinkers will have had in their favourite restaurants over the years.
Chateau Haut Bessac Bordeaux Blanc
The Glotin family has been producing wines in Entre-Deux-Mers since 1930, when they acquired 18th century Château Goudichaud. One of the first female winemakers, Henriette Glotin, devoted herself passionately to her family domaine. Sprawled over 120 ha of vineyards, forests and grasslands, this family estate is protected by nature evolving with respect for the terroir.
This wine distinguishes itself with its floral aromas, mingling white flowers, blackcurrant and citrus fruits. It reflects our savoir-faire and our terroir. The nose amazes right from the first scent, the round and voluptuous mouth maintains a good persistency of the aromas which develop and increase.
Château Beausejour Fronsac
The Melet family has owned Château Beausejour in Fronsac for five generations. Since 2011, the consultant oenologist has been one of Bordeaux’s finest, Stéphane Derenoncourt: here the grapes are picked by hand and the wine is aged for eighteen months, two thirds in barrel. 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc; and terrific this vintage, delivering ripeness but also lively, red-fruited freshness. Well-textured and complete. Now-2023
Pezat Rosé
This Pezat Rosé from Provence is the first French wine Maltus have made out with the Bordeaux appellation. The selected grape varieties are typical of the region. The blend exploits the aromaticity and supple roundness of Grenache, the intense fruitiness of the Cinsault, and the complex fruity spiciness of the Syrah. The result is a fresh, elegant wine with a superb red berry fragrance and a delicious dry finish.
“Delicate pale pink blush, golden hues. The nose is dominated by crushed strawberries, red cherries and pineapple, tipped with a touch of mint, a hint of juniper and white floral notes. The palate is finely balanced; both fresh and voluptuous, developing crisp citrus flavours that lead to a long refreshing finish.” Neil Whyte, head winemaker
