Country : France   Region: Bordeaux Superieur Varietal: Merlot 80% / Cabernet 15 % / Malbec 5%  Vintage: 2016 Colour: Red Style: Dry Producer: Chateau Larrat Description: In an Article in the Financial Times from Jancis Robinson - She stated: "I have just had the pleasure of wallowing in the best bordeaux vintage I will probably ever taste: 2016. It’s more consistent than 2015, as tannic as 2010 but with riper tannins, much more precise than 2009, and just more everything than most vintages" "It is a second coming of age of Bordeaux" says Mathieu Chardonnier of the 2016 vintage. He is the head of the negociant house of CVBG which also owns a number of top Bordeaux wine estates and sells millions of cases of Bordeaux each year. “It takes confidence to do less to get more in your winemaking and to believe in what you do. But that’s what many of us are doing in Bordeaux now. We made great wines in Bordeaux in 2015 and 2016. They are some of the best ever.”  Another renowned wine critic, James Suckling, stated: "You can buy just about anything bottled in Bordeaux in the 2016 vintage from the simplest Bordeaux to the grandest of classified growths or trophy wines from the Right Bank and be assured you’re getting a top-quality wine. Some winemakers in Bordeaux are calling the 2016 vintage part of 'the second coming of Bordeaux' due to the overall excellent quality of the wines and their unique character. And after tasting more than 1,300 wines from 2016 in Bordeaux, I must agree" This property has been in the Larrat family since 1972, this cru (formerly called Dom. de Grillet) extends its vines over 17.3 ha in Bourgeois, not far from the Romanesque church of Lafosse and the Lansac mill, and also has plots in the Blaye. This Chateau château is a family property of 60 hectares, 14 of which are in the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. Our vines are planted on sandy-gravelly, silty and clay soils, allowing them to produce wines of character, with the greatest respect for our terroir. Tasting Note: The rather powerful nose is dominated by the aromas of mature, dark fruitiness with a predominance of blackcurrant and cherry blossom with a hint of lavender. The palate reveals the features of the classic Bordeaux flavor - the juiciness of dark fruit, accents of hot earth and ink, which are a good sign of concentration.
