The Tinta de Toro (thelocal name for Tempranillo) is produced from 20 hectares of oldvines, located in Villabuena del Puente within Toro. It is a projectwhich was started by Tempranillo experts Izadi in the Toro DO, withtheir first vintage in 2003. A recent addition to the range is the Florde Vetus Verdejo, sourced from the Rueda DO which is renownedfor its refreshing white wines.VINEYARDSThe vineyards are situated in the Segovia area of the Rueda DO,which lies between Ribera del Duero - to the east - and Toro - tothe west. The old bush vines, planted in 1992, grow at an altitudeof 800 metres above sea level in poor, sandy soils and producevery low yields of top quality Verdejo grapes which displaybeautiful freshness and good levels of natural acidity, rarely foundin the grapes sourced from other nearby areas. The climate iscontinental with long winters and dry, hot summers.VINIFICATIONThe hand-picked grapes were loaded into small 20kg boxes toensure that they arrived at the winery in pristine condition. Uponarrival they were destemmed and crushed, with fermentationtaking place at controlled temperatures in stainless-steel tanks toretain the fresh varietal characters of the Verdejo grapes. Afterfermentation was complete, the wine stayed on its fine lees for ashort period to add extra complexity and structure.TASTING NOTESThis wine is a vibrant yellow in colour with youthful hints. On thenose are intense aromas of tropical, white stone and citrus fruit. The fruit characters carry through to the palate, balanced byrefreshing acidity and a persistent finish
