Florentino Ramos Ccoillar’s family were originally potato farmers in the Huancavelica region of the Andes. Years of drought and poor harvest pushed Florentino to move his family 15 years ago to the Rio Negro highland jungle in which the farming community is now situated. The tiny coffee farming community there now all hail from the Huancavelica region. Small community-based coffee farming is still unusual in Peru, a country dominated by large estates. Supporting this and similar projects is a great way to encourage further growth in the speciality sector there. There are 9 producers contributing to this lot including 4 members of the Ramos Ccoillar family. The cherries are hand-picked and immediately depulped and fermented for roughly 20 hours.
