In the heart of inner city Dublin lies the city’s main bus terminal Busáras (or Áras Mhic Dhiarmada it’s lesser known official name) millions pass through this building each year unaware of its great history. As one of Europe’s first postwar buildings it has been a gem in the eyes of architects across Europe for decades but in the case of the general public Busáras has received much less love and appreciation. TD and writer Eoin Ó’Broin and photographer Mal McCann are hoping to change this by celebrating the Michael Scott building in this wonderful new book.  Built between 1947 and 1953, Busáras was set out to be a bus station quite like no other. 1950s Dubliners were gifted with a transport hub fitted out with a rooftop nightclub/restaurant with panoramic views, a twenty-four hour newsreel cinema below the station’s concourse and a creche for the kids. Despite it’s early widespread acclaim for its innovation it is now a much underappreciated building.
