The Golden Age is a period in Dutch history that largely coincides with the seventeenth century. The Republic of the Seven United Netherlands flourished in areas such as the arts. The image on the plate is based on The Goldfinch, a painting by Carel Fabritius (Middenbeemster, baptized 27 February 1622 - Delft, 12 October 1654).
