The last days of the harvest were bathed in warm, late summer sunshine. From the beginning of the harvest on 27th August through to 23rdSeptember, exceptional weather conditions have paved the way for a sublime vintage that will be remembered as one of the best in years. This years vintage has been exceptional, according to Mommessin, an intense aromatic flavours prevail in this years vintage. Dark purple colour; delicate aromas of ripe cherry, strawberry and raspberry with floral, banana and pepper notes; dry, light bodied, slightly spritzy, quite lively with vibrant acidity and refreshing flavours of tart spring cherry, raspberry and strawberry with hints of tropical fruit.  (In line with French law Beaujolais Nouveau cannot be released on sale until the third Thursday in November each year).  Mommessin Beaujolais Nouveau 2021 is available at WineOnline.ie at a price of RRP: €84 FOR 6 OR €168 FOR 12 More than 60 million bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau, representing one third of the total wine production of the Beaujolais region, are produced each year.  Made from 100% Gamay grapes, which have thinner skins than most grapes, causing a lower tannin level, Beaujolais Nouveau is the most popular ‘vin de primeur’, fermented for just a few weeks and then officially released for sale.  By law, Beaujolais Grapes must be harvested by hand and grown on individual, free standing vines.  Beaujolais Nouveau is harvested, produced, bottled and shipped within two months.  It owes its easy drinkability to a winemaking process called carbonic maceration, or whole-berry fermentation.  This technique preserves the fresh, fruity quality of the wine.
