Country: Spain Region: Costers del Segre - Lleida  Varietal: Cariñena/ Syrah Vintage: 2017 Colour: Red Style: Dry Producer: Bodegas Torres  Description: Its inland location far from the sea has for centuries sidelined this area from world markets, producing wines with its own characteristic elements. Innovations in grape varieties and production methods have recently been introduced. It was the first place in Catalonia where the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay were introduced, alongside its native varieties, and also “California” winemaking techniques were adopted. As far back as 1770, the monks of the Montserrat abbey carried out their penance at the Desterrats estate. The area was known for its extreme climate and harsh conditions. Their task: working the land to provide food for the diocese. Their legacy: discovering a new terroir and a superlative wine. The legend: Enormous barrels vanishing mysteriously. Some said it was the angels taking them to heaven... Tasting Note:Extraordinary dark cherry red color with great depth. Intense floral (violet) and fruit (cassis) aroma with exquisite Mediterranean garrigue (thyme) coming through, joined by notes of smoke and spices (cocoa). Full and intense on the palate, with ripe, velvety, wonderfully elegant tannins. An exceptional wine, flavorful and full bodied, with a characteristic, terroir-imparted hint of minerality (graphite). Food Matches: Given the wine's tannin and fruit characteristics, it pairs beautifully with a wide variety of meat dishes. Serve at 14–16°C.
