Description Details Delivery AVAILABLE TO ORDER FOR DELIVERY FROM NOVEMBER 15TH. Sonia and I have worn tweed coats all our lives and it was a natural step to include a STABLE one in our collections. In order to create a coat with not only great style but also great tailoring and function, it was straight to Irish designer Peter O’Brien to explain the brief and idea and to work with Peter to create the perfect Irish tweed coat pattern. Peter’s exceptional eye and extensive experience in couture, tailoring and design are all over this coat and as a result, it is a pleasure to wear and to admire! With such extra attention to details given to the design and pattern, the coat wears so well on all who try it on. It is a timeless classic that will never date. A lifelong item of clothing that will be passed on to friends and family we expect! We are using Irish woven Donegal tweed and the coat is made in Dublin. The style of the coat is oversize cardigan style with a dropped shoulder, pockets and 3 buttons to the front. It can be worn open or buttoned and belted looks super too. This is a generous open cardie style coat it is not a fitted style coat. Belt not included. Model wears The Leather Belt in Dark Havana. Peter O’Brien was born in London to Irish parents, returning to Ireland as a child. Receiving a traditional education, he left secondary school early, going to work in visual display in Dublin department stores. At 19, Peter moved to London and worked in display in Marshall & Snellgrove (now Debenhams). On the advice of British fashion editor Eve Pollard, to whom he had shown some sketches, he applied to Saint Martins School Of Art and was accepted on a foundation course. After completing a three-year degree course in Fashion Design, he graduated with 1st class honours. Peter then completed a post-graduate course at Parsons School of Design in New York. Upon graduating, Peter moved to Paris where he worked at Christian Dior under Marc Bohan, at Givenchy, and as Head Designer at Chloé. In 1989 he was appointed creative director at Rochas, where he remained for 14 years, designing women’s wear and accessories, and overseeing menswear, perfumes and licenses. Peter returned to Ireland in 2004 where he has since been working as a freelance designer, creating collections first for retailer AWear and then an exclusive capsule collection for Arnotts department store. In 2017 Peter began a collaboration with Dunnes Stores. In 2005, Peter started designing for theatre, utilising his skills honed in the ateliers of Paris and calling on the services of a unique range of craftspeople and suppliers from his years working abroad. To date, he has designed the costumes for numerous plays at Dublin’s Gate Theatre, including ‘Lady Wyndemere’s Fan’, ‘The Constant Wife’, ‘Private Lives’, ‘Present Laughter’. He has also designed costumes for ‘Pygmalion‘, and ‘Hedda Gabler’ at The Abbey Theatre, Dublin. In 2012, fine art printers and book publishers Stoney Road Press launched a limited-edition, hand-printed book of O’Brien’s theatre and fashion drawings spanning 30 years and titled ‘Workbook’. In 2013, he was costume designer on the film ‘The Price of Desire‘ (dir: Mary McGuckian), based on the life of furniture designer and architect Eileen Gray. In 2018 Peter’s costume drawings for Brian Friel’s translation of ‘ A Month In The Country’ were officially added to the Print & Drawing Collection at The National Library of Ireland.
