The story follows the journey of a young mermaid who is willing to give up her life in the sea as a mermaid to gain a human soul. The tale was first published in 1837.Now Gio Pistone, a young artist from Rome, has interpreted the story using her own specific artistic language.Gio Pistone sees herself as a link as a link between the past and and the future. She encourages a dialogue between different generations of readers and artists, parents and children. This is one of a set of books that combines the tradition of the classic fairy tale with the language of fresh contemporary art. Gio Pistone is known for her colourful paintings and drawings. Her work is inhabited mostly by strange and charming creatures of her imagination.
Gio’s highly imaginative mind brings to life unknown worlds, strange creatures, a surreal atmosphere full of meanings and colours. She has the rare ability to blend colors managing to make harmonic tones seemingly light years away from each other.
Gio Pistone lives and works in her hometown, Rome.
