Red Raku Vase
€95.00
Gifted From Ireland
Raku fired ceramic vessel with red crackle glaze and decorative resist linear pattern. The piece has been thrown on the wheel. After bisque firing to 950°c. sections of the pot are masked off and the piece is coated with a red crackle glaze made from our own recipe and placed in a raku kiln and fired to 825°c. It is lifted from the kiln when molten and placed in a reduction bin filled with paper and wood chips. A lid is put on allowing the carbon to be trapped by the clay body. When the piece is removed from the reduction bin a spray of water is applied revealing the unique crackle pattern. The areas without glaze turn black.Unique one off piece. Size: H 18cm x W:17cmCare of Raku Pottery : Wipe gently with a damp cloth. Due to the low firing process raku ceramics are not shock-resistant nor waterproof or frost proof so suitable for indoor decorative use only.
