'Changeable' by Alastair Keady  A2 hand pulled screen print with eight layers, four of them being thermochromatic inks that change colour at 26/27C. 420 x 594mm / on 330gsm GF Smith Naturalis paper. Edition of 40, signed and numbered by the artist. About the ArtistAlastair is a graphic design graduate of NCAD and the Royal College of Art. He’s worked as a designer, and design educator, for far too long to dwell on. Interested in process and materiality in printmaking, he’s previously worked in letterpress, but returned to screen printing in 2017. Often found devising an image-making technique, and then discovering ways to undermine, abuse, and subvert it. Loves a happy accident. Disinterested in rigorous adherence to consistency in a world of perfect reproduction. Which is convenient. About the Piece‘Changeable’. It’s about the weather, of course. It’s a potpourri of graphic representations of met office vernacular, environment, and flora. Mostly though it’s about the process of the ephemeral – it’s always actively, or on the cusp of transition, depending on the ambient temperature. I printed this during the heatwave spell of the summer – in doing so easing my concerns that it might not actually function in the real world. Colours start to shift at 26°C, easing from lush and muddy greens into more fiery and parched territory. Also works by means of warm hands, and strategically positioned radiators or hair-dryers.  About the ProjectDamn Fine Print proudly presents a new collection of works by members and contributors to showcase some of the talent and creativity we’ve seen in our studio recently. Entitled ‘Irish Summer’, the collection draws upon a range of moods and memories to try and illustrate the fleeting joys and halcyon days of an Irish summer holiday.   We’ve brought together some established artists, familiar names and new talents to present a snapshot of where we’re all at creatively after exploring 2021’s once-in-a-lifetime, government-mandated ‘outdoor summer’. All works are silkscreen or risograph prints made right here in Stoneybatter, Dublin.  For private collections and more details, please email [email protected] FramingFrames can be purchased through Damn Fine Print in black, white and natural wooden finishes, here.
