Thibault Lepoutre, winemaker and overall director of Bodegas Piedra Negra in Argentina joins us for the first in the Winemaker Tasting Series of the 2021/ 2022 season. Thibault works closely with Francois Lurton, whose family have a rich history of winemaking in France, Spain, Chile and Argentina and Thierry heads up Bodegas Piedra Negra in Argentina. The flavor profile is intense and fresh with notes of pear and lime blend with aromas of quince, melon and green tea. A charming and typical nose, worthy of an exceptional terroir. The palate is roundand smooth with a fruity finish. A modern white wine and very tasty. Gran Lurton Blanco1 x 75clGran Lurton Blanc is a unique blend with 70 to 80% of "Friulano", fermented in the barrel with other varieties such as Viognier and Sauvignon. Awarded 95 points by Tim Atkin, this full-bodied, concentrated, yet delicate wine captures the Bodega's innovative, adventurous spirit."One of Argentina's very best whites."70% Tockaij, 7% Viognier, 7%  chardonnay and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. On the nose red summer fruit aromas dominate with a slight touch of black pepper. On the palate there is an attractive concentration of ripe red fruits which gives volume to the wine. It has a good structure and the tannins are soft and smooth. Its finish is long with notes of coffee. Piedra Negra Reserve Organic Malbec 1 x 75clHere the Valpolicella grapes are re fermented on the Amarone skins imparting some of the characteristics of the Amarone wine. Rich spicy perfumes and black pepper notes with a hint of raisins. Full bodied with a balanced palate, very intense and spicy with sweet cherry flavours Piedra Negra Gran Malbec 1 x 75clThe great Argentine Malbec "par excellence".Despite being foreigners, we were the first to promote this variety in the early 90s. A blend of Côt and Malbec, this wine is characterized by finesse and elegance. Grapes from various terroirs and altitudes around Mendoza are blended to obtain a complex wine and a perfect expression of this grape variety. Piedra Negra is regularly praised in the press.
